Land Acknowledgement

We would like to acknowledge that we are gathered on the traditional territories of many Indigenous Nations across what is now known as Ontario. These lands are home to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, who have cared for, protected, and nourished the land and waters since time immemorial.

We recognize this gathering as taking place on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat Peoples, including the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, on lands now commonly known as Tkaronto (Toronto).

We offer this acknowledgement with the understanding that land acknowledgements are only a small part of reconciliation. True reconciliation requires ongoing learning, advocacy, reciprocity, and support for Indigenous-led communities and initiatives.

We take this to to also acknowledge and honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S). We honour their lives, their families, and their communities, and recognize the urgent need for justice, and systemic change.

We encourage those who can to support Indigenous organizations, artists, businesses, wellness practitioners, and community initiatives. This includes taking meaningful action in solidarity with Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people by learning about who they are, supporting Indigenous women-led organizations that provide safety and advocacy, and attending awareness events such as Red Dress Day and community vigils.

Some organizations we are learning from and supporting include:
